Vets group opposes GOP "piecemeal' proposals on shutdown - calls for immediate reopening of entire government.

 ·  VoteVets.org, Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – The leading progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets.org, with over 360,000 supporters, today is opposing any “piecemeal” approach to funding the government, and calling on the Republican House Leadership to pass a clean continuing resolution, to get the entire government up and running.  The group surveyed its own veterans and military families, and found over 9,000 of them said they have been adversely impacted by the shutdown.

Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of VoteVets.org said, “The idea that the Republicans in Congress can toss crumbs to some government services, at the expense of others, is a non-starter for veterans and for the nation.  Veterans don’t live in a vacuum, solely relying on service from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the parks department.  We rely on a wide array of government services to be up and running, like all other Americans.  Frankly, it is a joke of a proposal by the House Republican leadership, to piecemeal the people’s government, and a cruel joke at that, for the millions of veterans who have been, or will be, impacted by the Republican government shutdown.  It’s time for the House Republican leadership to serve the nation with the dignity and honor that we did.  It’s time for them to pass a clean funding bill, to reopen the government.”

Founded in 2006,  and backed by over 360,000 supporters, the mission of VoteVets.org is to use public issue campaigns and direct outreach to lawmakers to ensure that troops abroad have what they need to complete their missions, and receive the care they deserve when they get home.  VoteVets.org also recognizes veterans as a vital part of the fabric of our country and will work to protect veterans' interests in their day-to-day lives.   VoteVets.org is committed to the destruction of terror networks around the world - with force when necessary - to protect America.  While non-partisan, the group is the largest progressive organization of veterans in America.
