WASHINGTON, DC – The leading progressive group of veterans in America,, with over 360,000 supporters, today is opposing any “piecemeal” approach to funding the government, and calling on the Republican House Leadership to pass a clean continuing resolution, to get the entire government up and running.  The group surveyed its own veterans and military families, and found over 9,000 of them said they have been adversely impacted by the shutdown.

Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of said, “The idea that the Republicans in Congress can toss crumbs to some government services, at the expense of others, is a non-starter for veterans and for the nation.  Veterans don’t live in a vacuum, solely relying on service from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the parks department.  We rely on a wide array of government services to be up and running, like all other Americans.  Frankly, it is a joke of a proposal by the House Republican leadership, to piecemeal the people’s government, and a cruel joke at that, for the millions of veterans who have been, or will be, impacted by the Republican government shutdown.  It’s time for the House Republican leadership to serve the nation with the dignity and honor that we did.  It’s time for them to pass a clean funding bill, to reopen the government.”
