Conor Lamb, a Marine veteran, went to college and law school at the University of Pennsylvania, and completed Officer Candidate School in 2009. After basic training, he was stationed abroad in Okinawa, Japan, where he served for two years as a prosecutor, working primarily on cases of sexual assault. In 2012, he was reassigned to Washington, DC, where he worked for the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals. Lamb completed active duty service in 2013 and joined the Marine Corps Reserves.

In April 2017, Lamb prosecuted and convicted a former Naval Academy instructor who lied under oath about sexual misconduct involving female service members. While serving in the Reserves, Lamb was appointed an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Justice Department's Pittsburgh office. Lamb has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars in lieu of third award, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the National Defense Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
